Where this started
We got tired of replacing things
Owngame began with a pair of shoes that fell apart after two winters, and a bottle of something expensive that turned out to be mostly marketing. Both had cost real money. Neither was built to survive contact with an actual life.
So we started in the other direction. Find the makers who still do the slow version. Pay them properly. Make fewer things, and make them so they can be fixed rather than binned.
The makers
A small group, visited in person
Our leather comes from two tanneries, our wool from a mill in the Scottish Borders, and every fragrance is blended by one perfumer working to our brief. We have been to all of them. We know what the floor sounds like.
That limits how fast we can grow. We think it is the whole point.
The promise
Bring it back and we will fix it
Shoes come back to be resoled. Knitwear comes back to be darned. Bottles come back to be refilled at a fraction of the original price. This is not a sustainability campaign, it is just how the products were designed in the first place.
If something we made cannot be repaired, we consider that a fault in the design rather than an opportunity to sell you another one.
Repairable by design
Welted soles, whole garments, refillable bottles. Everything is assembled so it can be taken apart again.
Sourced directly
A short list of mills, tanneries and one perfumer, all visited in person. No brokers, no anonymous factories.
Released slowly
Two considered drops a year. We would rather make less and get it right than fill a calendar.
